I have to confess to renting Beverly Hills Chihuahua because I was curious. Other people told me, (these are people whose intellect I trust),watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua was in fact better than getting your teeth pulled out. Even though I was positive that I was about to make a 91 minute mistake, I decided to rent it anyway. I slipped the DVD into my x-box 360, sat down with my best friend, my pet Chihuahua Toby, and pushed play.
Beverley Hills Chihuahua stars the adventures of a pampered Chihuahua named Chloe (who’s voiced by Drew Barrymore). Chloe finds herself in Mexico, far away from the comforts of Beverly Hills, when her owner (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), goes on vacation leaving Chloe with an irresponsible niece that decides to take a vacation of her own.
The pampered Chloe finds herself lost in Mexico and in deep trouble when she’s kidnapped by an evil organization of dogfighters. Chloe finds that she must find her true inner Chihuahua, beneath her Perry Winston diamond collar and Gucci Couture, in order to save herself and other dogs that are forced to fight to the death.
Surprisingly, Toby and I were riveted to Beverly Hills Chihuahua from beginning to end. In fact Toby managed to stay awake during the whole thing! Although the humor was cheesy in certain scenes, there was enough equally witty humor to keep things interesting. Beverly Hills Chihuahua has a lot of heart, as well as a sound plot and better than expected character development. Plus, the dogs are so darn cute! Overall, it’s a fun and entertaining movie with a great message for dogs and humans alike!
