I know it's hard to leave your pet at home while you go off to work. I know you think about them during the day and wonder what they are up to, what they may be thinking or doing. Do you ever wish you could plan some entertainment during their long day waiting for you to return home?
Here are some ideas on how you might be able to fit some extra entertainment time into your pet's day - if you have others that you use, please share them! These ideas will work if you crate your dog too - just make a few modifications so that they join in too.
#1 Pre-program your TV/VCR to play select movies at different times during the day. You can buy or rent some pet themed DVD's that are specifically made for your dog or cat.
#2 Pre-program your stereo to play some soothing tunes at select times during the day to help break up the silence.
#3 Make a phone call to home and leave a message on the machine (that will play as you talk so your pet can hear) that you love your pet. Call their name and tell them good boy, or good kitty.
#4 Leave out some of the treat balls that they will have to work/play with during the day to get their treat or food.
#5 Get some of the cognitive game toys for your pet (they come in models for both dogs and cats) where they can play and learn and get a treat all in one great toy.
#6 Arrange a pet sitter or dog walker to drop by a couple times a week to break up the routine and long day alone.
#7 Consider getting a buddy for your pet so they will always have a friend to play with!
#8 Consider doggy day camp one or more days a week - they can play while you work!
#9 Leave out a variety of long lasting chew toys during the week - change them up so that he won't get bored from the same one all the time
#10 Leave out a special squeeky toy or ball that you know they love to play with - have a variety so that you can change them up during the week
