Up until recently, the iPhone had no significance to cats except as a strange rectangle with a bright light, no different than anything else to chew on or knock off of a table for the sake of curiosity. However, Apple's utility device has finally received an application meant for feline interest. Here Kitty, Kitty, an App created by engineering professor Jeff Will, is designed to create sounds that appeal to cats.
Cats are notoriously difficult to call, but Here Kitty, Kitty offers a few sounds that even the most belligerent feline could not ignore. The tones mimicked include a cat's call, a bird's chirping, and the sound of an electric can opener. These are the only sounds the App offers, but since the program is sold for only ninety-nine cents, it's hard to see it as a poor deal. The sounds should be more effective for finding a hidden cat than any sound the unaltered human voice could make.
Here Kitty, Kitty has been available on the iTunes App store since June 22nd. As of this writing, there are three reviews on the product page; two praised the program's effectiveness with five and four stars respectively, though another gave it one star for its limits. But at ninety nice cents, it's not a big loss if your cat refuses the sounds. And if Here, Kitty Kitty draws your cat's attention, it can mean the difference between a mere annoyance and the heartbreak of a missing pet.
