Being a Southern California native, I was more than excited to hear that my little one could enjoy all the fun and excitement the local beaches offer. Long Beach has a 3 acre stretch of beach open to dogs and owners alike and within this coned-off zone, dogs are free to run and play without the hinderance of their leashes.
Upon hearing this, my boyfriend and I were quick to carry Riley, our now 6 month old Husky-Terrier mix, to the car and check it out. She was only 2 months at the time, but all the dogs and owners were super friendly. She ran around with the big dogs, tested out her sea-legs, discovered her newfound love of digging, and met her first boyfriend, Jackson, a year old Daschund.
Being new to the scene we were excited at how friendly and welcoming the community was. They seemed to know most of the dogs (and other owners!) by name, and had tons of friendly advice on training our Huskatier. Luckily no aggressive dogs are allowed, so it's fun for all. Especially watching our puppy trying to figure out the mechanics of a little-known game called catch (which I can tell you looked a whole lot more like a game of Tag).
All in all Dog Beach has become a sort of weekend ritual for our family, and I am already missing the long summer days we spent there. Lucky for me, this is California, and its pretty much summer all year long!
