Hugh Hefner's "Runaway Bride" Crystal Harris & Charlie
Image from ILoveDogs.com
The ultra-cute Cavalier King Charles breed has lots of admirers, including Playboy czar Hugh Hefner and his “runaway bride” Crystal Harris. When Hef’s 25-year old fiancé reneged on their marriage plans, Hef promised her the Bentley and the engagement ring if he retained possession of the couple’s Cavalier King Charles pup, Charlie. Crystal, however, wants the pricey goods and the beloved pup. Hef hopes a compromise can be reached. Ex-gal pals Kendra Wilkinson and Holly Madison are defending Hef, saying that Crystal initially gave the doggie back to him and then changed her mind. (That sort of behavior seems to be a trend with her!)
Paris Hilton may not be totally self-absorbed after all. While on vacation in Bali, she ordered a filet mignon dinner for a stray dog. Kim Kardashian may not have the same pet-friendly attitude, as this 2010 photo of her holding a kitten by the scruff of its neck indicates. With celebrities in general very PETA-oriented, Kim seemed to forgotten this temporarily during the kitten incident. During her marriage to Kris Humphries, the self-confessed neat freak, argued with him over whether his dogs could sleep in their bed. According to a People.com article, she wanted the doggies crated. Kim’s not always pet-phobic, though. She’s been photographed with all kinds of furry friends, from goats to baby pigs. She and ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush had a pet boxer named Rocky, and the Kardashians have a Twitter page dedicated to their pets - so those so inclined can keep up with the reality family’s furry friends. Meanwhile, sister Kourtney bought an exotic, and rather unfriendly, snake at an Upper West Side pet store last year. She also re-posted a video about beagles in a research lab on her website. Say what you want about the Kardashians, at least the sisters are animal-friendly.

Rhianna and her pet dog Oliver

Also in 2011- Victoria and David Beckham added a French bulldog named Scarlet to their family as well as a new baby daughter, Harper. Lisa Vanderpump of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills toted around her teacup pup, Jiggy, everywhere, from her Hawaiian vacation to an appearance on the Wendy Williams TV show. Other oft-photographed celeb pets in 2011 included Rhianna’s Maltipoo (Maltese/Poodle) mix Oliver and the mixed breed doggie that Olivia Wide and her ex-husband rescued from a Venice, California shelter. Finding a loving pet at the pound and rescuing strays is just as popular with celebs as buying foo-foo teacup dogs. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez allegedly love visiting animal shelters. And Katy Perry may not have Russell Brand around anymore, but she still has her pampered feline, Kitty Purry.
