New York City may not seem like the most pet friendly place to live or visit with your furry companion, but the City holds many surprises. Here are a few places you, your friends, and your pet can wine and dine together.
Barking Dog Luncheonette
First stop is the Barking Dog Luncheonette for breakfast or lunch. Located at 1453 York Ave, New York, NY, in the Upper East side, this spot may look small until you step inside. Dogs are allowed inside and out on the patio. Barking Dog has a full bar for you and a dog bar for your companion.
Shake Shack
The Shake Shack is located by the picturesque Madison Square Park, at Madison Avenue and 23rd Street. If you see a line, know that it is because it is just that good. But no worries when you have mans best friend by your side, the wait will not feel that long. The Shake Shack is known for its burgers, hot dogs, and super thick milk shakes. There is plenty of outdoor seating where dogs are welcome. If you want to check out this place to see how busy it is before you head down there, check out their website, which streams a live “Shake Cam” and remember to smile when you finally arrive.
Buddy’s
Here is a restaurant who’s name says it all. Buddy’s restaurant has outdoor seating where well behaved dogs and their owners can sit and enjoy a good meal. The menu contains classic American dishes with a modern twist - comfort food. Buddy’s opened up in the early 1900s and has been a favorite of the locals ever since. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 120 Hudson St. New York, NY.
Boat Basin Cafe
Located just a few blocks from a couple of off leash dog runs, Boat Basin Cafe is a perfect place to stop for a bite to eat after a long day playing fetch. Even more unique is the marina setting and open patio. Catch the breeze coming off the Hudson Bay and watch the sun set with your loved ones, including your furry friend. West 79th Street at Riverside Drive.
d.b.a.
If you’re not in the mood for a full meal, head over to d.b.a. for some drinks instead. With a constantly rotating menu of imported and domestic beers and scotches, you are sure to find something you will enjoy. The gravel garden at the back of the bar is like a little oasis in the middle of the city. 41 1st Avenue.
Always remember to keep in mind that you are responsible for your dog at all times.
If you live in New York City or are planning on traveling there, be on the look out for these and other great pet friendly restaurants and bars.
